Thomas Nguyen
Hi, I’m Thomas. I joined VTMH in February 2026 as a Psychiatry Registrar.
I completed my medical degree at Western Sydney University and, prior to joining VTMH, I was a Psychiatry Registrar at Austin Health where I worked across multiple settings including post-trauma recovery, acute inpatient, community child, and consultation-liaison psychiatry.
Alongside my clinical work, I am a Conjoint Associate Lecturer at Western Sydney University, where I collaborate on and publish research in refugee mental health and transcultural psychiatry. I am particularly interested in understanding the effects of post-migratory stressors on the mental health of individuals from refugee and culturally diverse backgrounds. I am also currently the Trainee Representative on the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) Asylum Seeker and Refugee Mental Health Network.
During my time at VTMH, I would like to work alongside local communities and organisations to support the development of more inclusive and culturally responsive mental health care.
In my spare time, I play volleyball and I enjoy all things food and travel.
